Q̓áikasas Ǧví’ḷas | Pt. 2
The Great Laws of The Haíɫzaqv : A Documentary Series | Sept. 24 - Ongoing Project
Learn how our Constitution will shape our future, moving us beyond Canada’s oppressive and racist law known as the Indian Act.
Part 2 focuses on our resistance to, and rejection of the Indian Act, and how we are drawing on the strength of our ancestors to do this while reaffirming our inherent right to govern ourselves, our territory and our everyday lives. Part 3 and Part 4 of this film series will be forthcoming, so please watch out for them!
This journey is all about us—Haíɫzaqv people—and how we can build a stronger future together. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect, share, and make a difference. Please feel free to share this film far and wide.
Q̓áikasas Ǧví’ḷas | Pt. 1
The Great Laws of The Haíɫzaqv : A Documentary Series | Sept. 24 - Ongoing Project
“Our Haíɫzaqv ancestors always had a constitution that guided them, helped them make decisions, and outlined the roles and responsibilities of different institutions within our Nation. This ancestral constitution is an oral constitution held in the hearts and minds of all Haíɫzaqv people.”
I got brought onto the Haíɫzaqv Constitution engagement team in September of 2024. A group of members entrusted with communicating to the nation the history, development and implementation of our budding Constitution. My role in this team is to create a documentary series following these efforts during this period of transition. To form avenues of engagement through film so my fellow nation members stay informed and therefore provided an empowered voice.
Cultivating Resilience | Pt. 1
January 2024 - Ongoing Project
This series follows the Haíłzaqv Climate Action’s journey of reclaiming food sovereignty in Bella Bella using low impact aquaponic systems. Due to Bella Bella’s remoteness and reliance on imported food has left the community with low quality, high cost sources of nutrient diminished produce.
Using aquaponics, and aeroponics, Haíłzaqv Climate Action and their collaborators are on track to develop a source of fresh, locally grown ingredients, medicines and spices. Luckily, this is only the latest fruits of the Haíłzaqv Nations food sovereignty direction. - joining green house installations, new gardens, compost initiatives, food hamper programs and seed / knowledge sharing provided by Qqs Project Society.
The HCA is still in development of the systems first iteration. More coming soon.
Desiree Lawson Masters Thesis - Haíɫzaqv Clam
May 2024
During Desiree’s journey to acquire her Masters degree in Environmental Sciences, she felt the need to capture a piece exploring the topic of her thesis - Clam beds in the Haíɫzaqv territory and how they can inform a better approach to climate change.
I was honoured to make this video for her, peering into the years of work behind her current journey. Her story is one of affirming our inherent responsibility to stewardship.
It was also a pleasure to team up with Shayenna Nolan to tie this video together! Instagram - @shayennaa
Haíłzaqv RCMP Protest
May 24th, 2024
Following the emergence of a series of racist social media posts made by Constable Adrian Robinson, the Haíłzaqv Nation stood together and spoke out. We will not tolerate discriminatory and racially intolerant mindsets amongst our community. In this case extending beyond our family ties to include individuals collaborating in our midst. In an act of sovereignty and safety, Haíłzaqv leadership and a community petition have removed this individual from our community. To communicate our place in this world loud and clear.

Learning Buddies Network is an after school program specialized in remote community outreach to empower elementary students through reading and math tutoring. It was a pleasure capturing the LBN collaborating with the Bella Bella Community School to foster confidence in the students they work with. Their apt utilization of remote tutoring tools made clear their ability to meet students at their level.
Safe Haven | Damien Gillis & Valhalla Wilderness Society
July 2023
“Safe Haven is the story some amazing ancient forests in the BC Kootenays — trees up to 2,000 years old, thousands of species — and the awesome people working to preserve them.”
In the summer of 2023 I had the pleasure of assisting on the production of Safe Haven with Damien Gillis and VWS. This was a challenging but amazing experience capturing some of the oldest untouched forests in the pacific north west. This was also my first Drone Operator credit!
